Individualized Our philosophy is to treat the needs of your child as an individual. Whether high or low functioning, each child with ASD possesses a unique set of abilities as well as challenges. As such, a successful program will only be one that addresses the distinct needs of your child while using proven methods. Programs using the "cookie cutter" philosophy of fitting your child into an existing protocol will struggle to maximize your child's progress.
Generalization At Pryor Consulting, concepts are taught in such a way as to utilize your child's pre-existing abilities and strengths to improve those areas in which your child may be struggling. After skills are learned, a heavy emphasis is placed on generalization of those skills. Concepts or skills are of minimal use unless the child is able to incorporate them into natural day-to-day situations. |

Language Skills All levels of language skills are targeted, based on a child's level of functioning. For children with minimal language, basic language imitation and receptive language skills are initially stressed. For children with more advanced language, more complex language skills such as conversation and communication skills are addressed. |

Playskills Playskills are of monumental importance to a child's program. It is through applying playskills that a child will learn many social, motor, and communication skills while also developing flexibility and creativity. As a child's playskills improve, countless improvements are seen in other aspects of their daily life. |

Self-Stimulatory Behaviors It is very important to reduce the amount of self-stimulatory behaviors a child is engaging in. Self-stimulatory behaviors may include spinning, lining up objects, hand flapping, or looking oddly at objects. Though some theorize that self-stimulatory behaviors are useful and should not be discouraged, we find that in many instances they inhibit learning and slow development. Our program helps your child decrease his/her self-stimulatory behaviors by proactively redirecting the child to more appropriate behaviors and more importantly, by teaching your child appropriate play skills. |

Negative Behaviors Negative behaviors such as tantrums and aggression towards self or others are targeted and improved throughout a child's program. Effective behavioral tools are taught and practiced with parents and anyone working with your child, Language and communication skills are also stressed in order to enable your child to recognize and appropriately express those things they find upsetting. |
